our treatment

Our care comes through a variety of methods, individualized for your needs.  Your goals are our goals, short term or long term, you tell us.  Everyone is unqiue and reacts to treatment differently.  Through years of experience in the treatment of many conditions, we can readily identify what is working and what treatment method is required to get you better - faster.

Our integrated approach will incorporate a combination of treatments

mobilization & manipulation

A chiropractic adjustment, also known as chiropractic manipulation, manual manipulation, or spinal manipulation, is a common therapeutic treatment.

A chiropractic adjustment refers to a chiropractor applying manipulation to the vertebrae that have abnormal movement patterns or fail to function normally.

The objective of this chiropractic treatment is to reduce the subluxation, with the goals of increasing range of motion, reducing nerve irritability and improving function.

laser therapy

Laser therapy is a treatment method that utilizes the properties of light.  The ancient Egyptians built dome shaped buildings with a hole at the top to harness the sun's light and concentrate it in one spot.  The sick then came to sit in that spot to be healed.

Laser is healing at the speed of light.  Light penetrates the cells of the body and is absorbed by the mitochondria (the powerhouse of the cell) and is converted into biochemical energy that is used.

nutritional support

Dr. deVries offers advice regarding nutritional support and orders a variety of products that can improve your health and wellness.

ultrasound

Ultrasound is a therapeutic treatment that uses high-frequency sound waves, as fast as a million times a second, to penetrate the tissues of the body.  A gel is used, at room temperature, to conduct the sound waves. These sound waves can be used for a thermal effect, to help break down unhealthy calcium deposits and scar tissue as well as non-thermal effect, to help reduce muscle spasm and inflammation while speeding up the body's natural ability to heal.  Ultrasound is typically used to treat the following:

  • sports-related injury

  • tendonitis

  • chronic back and neck pain

  • tense muscles

  • arthritis

acupuncture

Acupuncture is one of the main forms of treatment in traditional Chinese medicine.  It involves the use of shap, thin needles that are inserted in the body at very strategic points.  This process is used to adjust and alter the body's energy flow into healthier patterns, and is used to treat a wide variety of illnesses and health conditions.

The World Health Organization recommends acupuncture as an effective treatment fr over 40 medical conditions.

preventative education

Dr. deVries offers advice regarding exercise, nutrition, postural and other activities that impact your ability to prevent injury and pain.

electrotherapy

Electrotherapy, or interferential current (IFC), is a therapy that uses small amounts of current or electrical impulses that cause a low frequency stimulation that promotes the release of beta-endorphins and other natural pain killers.  It is used mostly for pain relief but it also aids in the reduction of inflammation, swelling and soft tissue healing.  In our clinic electrotherapy is often used in combination with ultrasound with the resulting effect of being synergistic in their effective results, meaning you, the patient gets better even faster.  Electrotherapy has the following benefits:

  • reduce painful symptoms

  • reduce inflammation

  • increase cellular metabolism and healing

  • helps retain normal muscle tone

orthotics

Are you an average walker? The average walker takes between 3,000 to 6,000 steps a day. People who regularly exercise take up to 20,000 steps a day.  That's a lot of steps.  The pressure on your feet is 3 to 4 times your body weight each and every step.  Most people work on hard surfaces like tile or concrete.  We were never made to walk on hard surfaces.  What impact do all these steps have on your body? Have you ever heard the song "the foot bone is connected to the knee bone, is connected to the hip bone, is connected to the backbone?"  It's a simple song but it has a lot of meaning in terms of impact for the feet.

Small problems in feet can cause big problems in the rest of the body.

Custom orthotics correct the way your feet work.  Proper foot mechanics can be the first step in the correction of knee, hip or back pain.

other treatment

Parafin wax is used in some situations to relieve pain in hands due to arthritis.
